Our Move Into Tesla: The Next Chapter for Our Business
The Shift Towards Electric Vehicles
Originally, the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars was set for 2035. Like many, we assumed this was something for the future and not something we needed to think too much about.
However, with that deadline now brought forward to 2030, it prompted us to take a closer look at our stock profile and where the market is heading.
Our Journey So Far
Back in 2021, we made a conscious decision to explore the electric vehicle market. Rather than simply reading about it, we wanted real-world experience. We leased a Tesla Model 3 to properly understand how an electric car fits into everyday life, from charging and range to performance and practicality.
The lease ran for three years at 15,000 miles per year. As it came to an end, we explored the option to extend, but ultimately decided the best step forward was to fully commit. We purchased a new Model 3 in December 2024.
For those reading about our business for the first time, we were established in March 2014, initially focusing on mainstream brands such as Ford and Vauxhall. It quickly became clear that we were a small fish in a very big pond, so we adapted. We moved into premium vehicles, often described as “Merc for Mondeo money,” one of James’ favourite sayings.
Alongside cars, vans have always been a key part of what we do. In 2018, we launched PVSsportline, enhancing vans with styling upgrades such as alloy wheels, spoilers, and side bars. This was another step in diversifying our offering.
More recently, in November 2024, we introduced our first electric van. It sold within a week, which was a clear sign of growing demand. Since then, we have made a conscious effort to always have at least one electric van in stock, although sourcing quality vehicles has been a challenge.
Interestingly, when we first made the move into electric, many of James’ friends said he would be the last person to drive one, not the first. That probably says everything about how quickly perceptions have changed.
Now, as we move into April 2026 and the start of a new financial year, we have taken time to reflect, not just on the past 12 months, but on where both our business and the wider market are heading.
Over the last few months, we have also been testing the water with electric cars. The result has been a clear decision.
Going forward, we will be focusing on supplying a range of used Tesla models, with the ambition of becoming East Anglia’s leading independent Tesla specialist.
This is not a step into the unknown for us. Having lived with a Tesla for the past four years, we understand the ownership experience, including the benefits, the considerations, and the questions customers naturally have when making the switch to electric.
That experience has been key in shaping our decision and gives us a clear understanding of what electric vehicle ownership really looks like in practice.
Our Experience with the Tesla Model 3
Over the past four years, owning and driving a Tesla Model 3 has given us a genuine, real-world understanding of electric vehicle ownership.
From day one, what stood out was how quickly it became part of everyday life. Charging, which was initially one of the biggest unknowns, soon became routine, particularly with the convenience of home charging. For day-to-day driving, the range has proven more than sufficient, and the overall driving experience is smooth, responsive, and quiet in a way that is difficult to appreciate until you have experienced it yourself.
Beyond that, it is the small details that make a difference. Regular software updates mean the car continues to improve over time, while the simplicity of the interior and controls makes it easy to live with.
Of course, like any vehicle, there are considerations, and we understand the questions customers have when it comes to making the switch. This is why having first-hand experience is so important, as it allows us to offer honest, practical advice based on real usage, not just specifications.
We will be sharing more about our day-to-day experience of driving a Tesla, including charging, running costs, and real-world use, in a separate blog.
Why We’re Focusing on Tesla
One of the questions we are often asked is why Tesla.
For us, the decision comes down to a combination of real-world experience and what we are seeing in the market.
Real-World Ownership Experience
Having lived with a Tesla day-to-day, we have seen first-hand how straightforward electric vehicle ownership can be. From charging routines to general usability, it is a product that integrates easily into everyday life and is something that is difficult to fully appreciate without experiencing it yourself.
Strong Demand in the Used Market
From a business perspective, demand for used Tesla models remains strong. This gives customers added confidence when it comes to resale value and long-term ownership, which is an important factor for many when making the move to electric.
Charging Infrastructure Confidence
One of the most common concerns around electric vehicles is charging. Tesla’s well-established charging network helps to remove much of that uncertainty and makes longer journeys and day-to-day use far more convenient than many expect.
Technology That Evolves Over Time
Another key advantage is Tesla’s approach to technology. Regular software updates mean the vehicles continue to improve over time by adding features and refining performance. This still feels quite unique within the automotive industry.
Put simply, Tesla offers a combination of usability, desirability, and market confidence that aligns with both our own experience and what our customers are looking for.
Looking Ahead
Through our own experience, we are able to guide and support customers as they navigate their move into the electric market with confidence.
Our focus is not just on supplying vehicles, but on helping customers understand whether switching to electric, and specifically Tesla, is the right choice for them.
